¶ TESLA will develop a battery remanufacturing facility in Collie under an agreement with the State Government.
The facility, expected to employ up to 50 local workers on reaching full capacity, will be co-located with Neoen’s battery project.
It will service Tesla’s grid-scale Megapack batteries, the batteries being harnessed by Neoen, and other Tesla products installed in WA.
Once at scale, it could service residential Powerwall batteries, as well as electric vehicle charging equipment.
Premier Roger Cook, who was in town today for the announcement, and Tesla Motors Australia signed a memorandum of understanding in December to develop the project.
“Establishing this facility in WA will help to drive the energy transition in our state, delivering clean, affordable and reliable energy for WA’s future,” Mr Cook said.
“Collie has been the heart of our energy system for the past century, and projects like this mean Collie will have a bright future as WA transitions away from coal.”
Tesla regional director of energy, APAC, Josef Tadich said Collie is playing a critical role in the energy transition.
“This new remanufacturing facility will enable the repair and maintenance of our utility-scale and residential batteries to take place right here in WA, providing faster support for local customers while reducing logistical costs and emissions,” Mr Tadich said.
