Students put solar innovation to the test
1 min read

¶ A VARIETY of vehicles were on show last week at Amaroo Primary School as part of the annual Synergy Schools Solar Challenge.
Year six and year eight students competed in teams of four to design, build and race solar-powered cars, gaining an understanding of energy and engineering through hands-on learning.
Overcast weather on the day left teams relying on back-up battery power more often than not, but did not put on a damper on their enthusiasm.
Synergy acting chief executive officer Kurt Baker said learning about energy technologies and engineering principles “in fun and engaging ways” can help inspire the next generation.
“The energy industry is going through a time of rapid transformation and today’s kids will be leading the way in developing exciting new future energy solutions,” Mr Baker said.
Williams Primary School took out first and second place in the year six section.
Narrogin Senior High School finished first in the year eight section, followed by Hope Christian College.
The grand final will take place on April 8 at Murdoch University.
