Student voice a focus for captains

¶ GREATER student engagement will be a focus for Collie Senior High School’s 2025 school captains Connie Davey and Royce Ellison.
Both students agree they would like to see their peers become more involved in decision making that impacts all students.
Connie said she had asked around for students’ perspective on the role of the student council prior to putting herself forward for captain.
“I found out that the majority of people don’t even know what the student council does,” she said.
“I want to change that and make the student cohort more involved with us as captains because we are representing them.”
There is strong potential for students to become more engaged, Royce added.
“When decisions are being made for the school, the students don’t really don’t get involved, it’s more like the student council,” he said.
“I would like to get the students more involved in fundraisers and those sorts of things.”
Connie also highlighted fundraising initiatives as one area where students can become more engaged.
“I’ve also proposed an idea of starting a students’ choice newsletter, which is for the students made by the students, encouraging students to engage with each other and also engage with what the student council is doing,” she said.
