‘New chapter’ for Collie hockey
3 min read

¶ THE amalgamation of the men’s and women’s hockey competitions under the Collie Hockey Association has opened a “new chapter”, according to president Gary Faries.
Faries said the rationale was to consolidate the former Coalfields Hockey Council and make better use of resources at a local level.
“What we did was look at what is best for Collie hockey,” he said.
“We looked at the men’s constitution, the Coalfields Hockey Council’s constitution and the women’s bylaws.
“It was a long process, and very transparent, because we wanted our membership to be involved.
“Both the men and the women now have the same constitution.”
Faries said there has been a renewed focus on supporting junior development and growing player numbers.
Older players are also being encouraged to stay involved.
“We’re working on bringing some of the older players back to be mentors and guide the younger players,” Faries said.
