Breakthrough for Young in Eagles’ ambrose event

BRAD Young partnered Jaydon Ellery for a breakthrough win in the Collie Eagles sponsored 18-hole ambrose event last Saturday.
Young has been agonisingly close to winning a number of events over the past month and provided the ideal foil for the big hitting Ellery as they posted a nett 61 to be one shot clear of Clayton Flynn and Stephen Edwards on 62.
John Wray and Mark Malatesta picked up vouchers for their score of 63.5, finishing ahead of the combinations of Jessiah Crowther-Colin Giblett and Jay Robinson-Ron Annandale of 64.25 and 64.75 respectively. Veteran Dot Sullivan was the winner of the ladies’ stableford event, compiling a tidy 34 points.
The Eagles provided 10 extra novelties for the event and these were gleefully accepted, particularly by “max-a-million”, Max Thomas, who won hole Nos 8, 13, 17 and 18, while doubles were landed by Neil Motion (11, 12), Jay Robinson (1, 14) and Stephen Edwards (3, 6).
Other novelty winners were John Wray (2), Trevor McCormick (4), Connor Mumme (5), Greg Coverley (8), Graeme Jackson (9), Ian Shannon (10), Blair Malatesta (15), John Souter-Robertson (16) and Jessiah Crowther (18).
JAY Robinson’s recent good form was on display in last week’s Tuesday leisure day 18 hole stableford.
Robinson won the Freed-up Accounting carton on offer with a score of 39 points, far and away the best score in what was a relatively low-scoring event.
Terry Ellery was alone on 35 for second spot, while John Williamson and Joel Simmonds were one point further back, on 34.
Graham Williams won novelties on Nos 4 and 7. Jackson Broadbent (9), Ian Shannon (14) and Terry Ellery (18) won the other novelties.
THE ladies’ jubilee foursomes 18-hole stableford event, played on Wednesday of last week, was won by Jodie Allison and Angela Ireland in a tight finish. The Ireland-Allison combination scored 32 points to finish one ahead of Bev Moyses and Beth Chappell.
They scored two better than Lee Massara and Pat Booth.
Novelties were won by Heather Dabrowski and Rhonda Annandale (No. 1), Vicki Graham and Nancy Lynn (7) and Terri Old and Shelley Barker-May (13).
