Scenic Drive safety issues: ‘Wanton vandalism’ endangering road users

¶ COLLIE Shire president Ian Miffling says vandals tipping signs over on Scenic Drive are creating safety issues for the travelling public.
Signs and guide posts on both sides of Scenic Drive have been systematically pushed over, stretching the entirety of the seven kilometre loop.
“It’s wanton vandalism, more than just vandalism,” Cr Miffling said.
“It’s absolutely outrageous that people go along and do those stupid things and endanger other people’s lives, because Scenic Drive has many twists and turns, and ups and downs, and the signs are there for a purpose.”
Vandalism has been a persistent issue along the stretch of road.
Last year, Adventure Connections tour operator Kym Gibson hit out at vandals who had knocked over and pulled signs out of the ground.
Missing signage near roads creates the risk of a car accident, Mrs Gibson said.
“The signs are there, first and foremost, for the safety of the travelling public,” Cr Miffling said.
“For idiots to go there and just destroy them, without any consideration for the aftermath, which could be somebody getting hurt, it’s just beyond comprehension.”
Replacement of the signs will create additional costs, Cr Miffling added.
“The other part is the cost to the community, because somebody has to pay for it, to go back and reinstate them all,” he said.
