¶ COLLIE Shire Council has approved a development approval application for stage one of the Riverview Residence retiree units redevelopment.
Council backed the application at its March meeting, subject to a number of conditions that will need to be met ahead of a building permit being sought.
Council had previously granted development approval in March 2022.
However, the proponents have since revamped their plans following a cost blowout, meaning a new approval was required.
Under stage one of the project, 12 units are planned.
Riverview chief executive officer Mark Sheldon-Stemm told council the aim is to have earthworks completed by June, with modular two-bedroom and one-bathroom units arriving from Perth from July.
“I’m hoping by the end of October we’ll have units on the ground and we’ll move people in,” Mr Sheldon-Stemm said.
Tenants at the current site are ready to move in ahead of stage two, which would involve demolition of old units, Mr Sheldon-Stemm added.
It is planned for overall development of the site to be carried out over four stages, comprising 35 units, a clubhouse and visitor carparking.
A meeting with the Southwest Design Review Panel at the end of January resulted in design revisions being made to the development’s streetscape character, pedestrian connections and landscaping.
Conditions to be met ahead of a building permit being sought include shire approval of a bushfire management plan and bushfire evacuation plan, along with a detailed landscaping plan.
