Playground proposed: $50k commitment for Amaroo Primary School

¶ GIANT snakes and ladders markings and sensory play are proposed for Amaroo Primary School under a $50,000 State Government election commitment.
The upgrade of the school’s playground facilities would be focused on inclusive play equipment and also include wheelchair accessible items.
Amaroo’s existing playground is 30 years old.
A Department of Education inspection found the existing facilities required major repair or replacement, with replacement viewed as the most cost-effective option.
Stage one of the upgrades was completed over the school holidays, comprising a new Funky Monkey playground.
The government’s election commitment would enable stage two.
“The provided funds will allow us to install a more inclusive playground, with some wheelchair accessible pieces,” Amaroo P&C secretary Ashe Bostock said.
“The facelift will hopefully lead to increased engagement during break times, encourage movement and imaginative play, and also foster the development of social skills, such as taking turns and assisting others.”
Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns said the upgrade would have a lasting benefit for the school and community.
“As a former teacher, I understand how important playtime is to students’ learning and wellbeing at school,” Mrs Hanns said.
“Amaroo Primary School is one of the largest schools in Collie-Preston, providing an important variety of services through KindiLink and Little Explorers programs.”
