THE Regional Youth Driver Education (RYDE) program was officially launched in Collie on Tuesday at the PCYC.
The program provides young people aged between 16 and 25 the opportunity to complete their 50 hours of supervised driving experience with volunteer driving mentors.
RYDE provides both the mentor and the vehicle, with Community Bank Collie helping with the purchase of the vehicle.
RYDE program coordinator Raine Torrisi said the program has been steadily expanding in the South West.
She said RYDE initially started following the increase from 25 to 50 hours of compulsory learner log book driving, which presented challenges for many young people.
“Supporting our youth is very important,” Community Bank Collie board chairman Jeff Riley said. “This is another project that we hope will help the community.”
