Opinions divided about progress made
IT IS one year on from the State Government’s announcement that Collie’s coal-fired power plants will be shut down by 2030.
While the move had long been expected, it nevertheless created significant uncertainty for a community built around coal.
An additional $547.4 million in funding was at the same time dedicated to Collie’s Just Transition and the development of new industries.
Scepticism has, however, been expressed about the ability to meet the deadlines for the retirement of coal-fired plants.
Replacing coal sector jobs also remains an overriding community concern.
