Liam mixes metal with work experience

¶ COLLIE Senior High School (CSHS) work experience student Liam van Beuningen was impressed when he walked through Collie Community Radio station’s doors for the first time recently.
“I thought this place looks very new,” Liam said.
“I wasn’t expecting that.”
Liam has since been learning the ropes and has already produced a promo for the station that aired the same day.
In the coming weeks he will be working on producing a show, featuring metal, his preferred music genre.
“I was offered to do metal songs, the songs that I like,” the year 11 student said. “I enjoy bands like Korn.
“I enjoy the way the music is composed.
“It’s much different to pop music.
“I have a lot of friends who enjoy that type of music, and they would like me to spread the word so we can try to get younger people listening.”
CSHS workplace learning coordinator Steve Wayman said the work experience program will run throughout the year, with Liam spending Fridays at the station.
He said the support from the station and local businesses is welcomed.
“There’s so much support within the community providing kids real-world experience,” Mr Wayman said.
“A lot of businesses recognise that as well as helping out the community it’s also serving the economic interests of the town to have that workforce coming through and gaining experience.”
