THE Lions Club of Collie will not run this year’s Christmas parade due to a lack of members able to help with its planning and preparation.
Vice president Greg Biffin said the decision follows last year’s downscaling of the parade.
“We have an ageing membership and declining numbers, and we’ve taken a vote that we just haven’t got the people to give it the time and commitment that it needs,” Mr Biffin said.
Most Lions members are well over 70 years old, Mr Biffin added.
Significant effort goes into organising the parade, he said.
“In the past we’ve spent thousands of hours preparing,” he said.
“It used to be like a fair - we had sideshows and street vendors and stalls. We’ve had rides, slides, climbing frames and face painters.”
Any community group interested in taking the project on can contact Lions via: collie.wa@lions.org.au.
