Bank directors impressed by station

COLLIE Community Bank directors Ian Miffling and Ken Smallwood were very impressed when they toured the new radio station building on Friday.
Bank board chairperson Jeff Riley was already well acquainted with the project, as he is the builder.
On hand to show them around were Collie Community Broadcasting Association chairperson Mark Paget and project manager Mark Sanders.
Cr Miffling also invited his colleague on council, Cr Gary Faries.
“This is a very significant project for the bank - I think it could be the most important project we have done for the community,” Cr Miffling said.
The building is nearing completion, but is still lacking a few elements, including power and a toilet.
The directors asked if a date had been set to occupy the building, but were told this could not be done at the moment, as Western Power was unable to say when power will be connected.
Access to the building is also constrained, as work to construct parking, a footpath and crossover has not yet been done.
“We can’t begin installing any of the electronic equipment until we have power,” Mr Sanders explained.
“Western Power has not been able to give us a date for this to happen.
“We have been in discussions with council about access works, as the slope of the site makes it difficult to construct an accessible path without channelling rainwater run-off straight into the building.”
The official opening of the new building has been set for Saturday, December 2 to coincide with the station’s 18th birthday.
