KFC car park raises questions

I CAN’T quite fathom how a KFC fast food outlet is deserving of a $500,000 government grant to build their own car park.
The new landowner describes it as “a bonus” (Bulletin, July 20). Yep, sure is, but hardly surprising considering that you applied for it.
It must have been a fascinating process, and with all the justifications needed by our peers and whoever had the last say on recommending this to be signed off on.
But excellent business skills shown.
We, the ratepayers and taxpayers, are happy to pay for new roadworks behind the Ampol garage, we also tipped in for asbestos removal from the Railway Institute building - so, well done KFC.
As for this car park supporting tourism by providing a stop-off for caravans and trailers, then what stopped the council from applying for a grant for this years ago? There’s been no shortage of grants over the years, as we’ve all seen.
I’m sure you have all diligently thought out the traffic issues that will ensue.
It’s more than a bit dodgy even now trying to get from Throssell Street to Forrest Street through the railway crossing - can’t wait for the new entrance, especially with all those extra caravans and trailers trying to get in line.
But I’m sure the town and all its residents, plus all the local businesses will heave a collective sigh of relief and be comforted, knowing that very soon we don’t have to travel 42 kilometres for a piece of fried chicken.
This surely must put the icing on the cake for Collie’s future.
