¶ OUTDATED visions of an atomic energy future notwithstanding, Collie will continue to strive to become a sustainable energy-generating centre.
It will reap the lucrative benefits that go hand in hand with such a development, as well as becoming an even more desirable place in which to live and do business.
In that context, the newly formed Townscape and Environment Committee may want to seriously consider increasing Collie’s “liveability index” by building on its already well utilised, but very limited, bicycling infrastructure to transform the town into the state’s leading bicycle-friendly centre.
By world standards, this is not a new concept and many major cities in Western Europe have already made this positive transformation to improve their liveability as well as their commercial viability.
There is a vast worldwide network of people with extensive experience and expertise in this field who will be happy and available to consult, advise and assist with such a development.
These are exciting times for the beautiful town of Collie as it grasps a forward-looking vision of the future.
We could and should be well on the way to becoming an example to the nation of how it should be done.
