¶ LYN Mitchell was named Citizen of the Year at the annual Shire of Collie Australia Day awards ceremony on Sunday.
Lyn prevailed from a strong field of five nominees, any one of whom would have been a worthy winner.
The award is recognition of her many years of volunteering as a member of the Collie Lions Club, Collie Repertory Club and as a life member of the Collie Bowling Club.
Lyn has also been the Collie coordinator of the Read Write Now program, providing tutoring services for adults, since its inception.
On what was a special day for Lyn, the only down side was the absence of her brother, Steve Davies, who was away in the eastern states.
As the organiser of the long-running Cheerio Club Christmas party, Steve would have been on stage to help collect the Community Group of the Year award.
“That would have been something special to see, brother and sister on stage together to collect awards,” Lyn said after the presentation.
As with the individual award, the field was strong in the group award category, and while there were only three nominations, any group would have been a worthy winner.
