Championships a learning curve

¶ COLLIE Underwater Hockey Club junior players have gained valuable experience at the 2025 Australian Underwater Hockey National Championships in Ballarat, Victoria, this week.
The club sent a contingent of players to compete in the event, with it a first-time experience for under-15s players Maddy Dallywater, Keira Gillard and Shane Digney.
Ahead of leaving for the event, Maddy, captain of the under-15s development team, said she was not feeling any extra pressure.
“I’m pretty confident and excited mostly,” she said.
Under-15s development team coach Scott Digney said the players will gain an insight into the standards required to step up to the next level.
“It’s going to be a good learning curve for them, learning how training works and what being in a team environment involves,” he said.
“You also make lasting friendships. It’s an awesome sport in that it allows that to happen.”
